2. Packing
To keep weights consistent, pack heavy items in small boxes, light items in larger boxes.
Remove bulbs from lamps.
Place pictures and frames between clothes, sheets, blankets, or towels for extra protection.
Stack plates and record albums on end vertically, not horizontally.
Have children label their own boxes so they become familiar with their new address.
Take your current phone book with you.
To dispose of flammable liquids contact your local fire department.
Consider carrying your photo albums with you to avoid loss or damage.
Clean all appliances and vacant space, for example, where your washer and dryer were.
Give the driver of your moving van a phone number where you can be reached: keep your move registration number handy, in case you have any questions.
Wrap plants well for cold weather moving and keep them away from windows and exterior walls of the van in warm weather.
Haul away junk that has accumulated under your deck or behind your garage.
Return mail box keys to the postal outlet or leave them for the new owner along with a map of the box location.
Check all shelves, closets, and storage areas for items left behind.
Did you remember to remove your garage door remote from your vehicle?!
